A GREEN space action plan for north east Fife has been agreed by councillors.

The plan sets out and prioritises the work that is required to improve on the quality of parks and public green spaces, play areas, allotments, woods, outdoor sports and floral features.

A management plan will be produced for Cupar’s Haugh Park with the aim of obtaining a green flag award in 2013 and plans will be developed to seek funding for improvements to Duffus Park in the town.

Work will continue to try to find a sustainable future management of Craigtoun Park and St Andrews Botanic Garden.

Play areas in Gauldry and Dairsie will be refurbished and new adult outdoor exercise equipment will be installed in Haugh and Duffus parks.

SUSTAIN

New changing pavilions will be opened at Cockshaugh Park, St Andrews and Pittenweem and multi-use games areas will be installed in Anstruther.

Public planting beds will be replanted in various locations across the area and green space has been identified to sustain biodiversity in Tayport, St Andrews, Anstruther and Kilrenny where wildlife friendly maintenance practices can be carried out.

A new allotment site will be developed in Pittenweem and new sites investigated for Cupar and St Andrews.

Councillor Andrew Arbuckle, chair of the north east Fife area committee which approved the plan, said: “Major investment and improvements have been made to green spaces in the north east Fife area over the last few years.

OPPORTUNITY

“Some of the projects in the action plan still need to secure funding in order to be carried out this year, but it is a good opportunity to take a look at the priorities for the next year as well as reflect on the good progress made.

“A number of joint ventures and partnerships have been developed over the last few years with local organisations and volunteering groups.

“They have and will continue to be central in delivering on our green space action plan for the coming year and are a real asset to their local community.”
