Have you got mail...?

A POSTMAN in Kirkcaldy has been suspended following a Royal Mail investigation.

The member of staff - who has since resigned - had been withholding mail from households in the KY1 postcode area.

The Press understands Royal Mail has been unable to recover all letters and parcels which went missing but has redelivered what it could.

A Royal Mail spokesman was also unable to say how many households had been affected - or for how long.

Iain Gow (69), a retired HR director, told the Press he had noticed mail going astray from his address in Milton Road over the past two years.

“I’ve complained to Royal Mail twice and have been fobbed off,” he said.

“I was very disappointed with their response .

“They were not interested and it didn’t result in any improvement in service.

“You rely on the post, don’t you?”

He added: “I was expecting a small parcel recently which didn’t arrive and sent away for some Tesco vouchers which I think should have arrived by now but haven’t.

“I get my neighbour’s mail and he gets mine.”

A spokesman said: “Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hardworking and who do all they can to protect the mail and deliver it safely.

“We will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust.

“We have now redelivered all the mail recovered to customers.”

The spokesman added: “If customers have any further queries, they should contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457 740740.”
