Kirkcaldy residents are being given the chance to have their say on improvements to the sea wall which runs the length of Kirkcaldy promenade.

Fife Council transportation and environmental services is holding an open day at the Adam Smith Theatre on Wednesday, November 21 between 2.00–7.00 p.m.

Work on the new sea wall is planned to begin next summer and is expected to be complete by autumn 2014.

The new wall will be half a metre higher than the current one and will be protected by large boulders as rock armour to break up large waves.

As well as preventing flooding and improving public safety, the new sea wall will provide a better experience for people visiting the promenade, thanks to improved beach access and several raised viewing platforms along the wall.

Upgraded

The existing seating and shelters will also be upgraded during the improvement works.

All of the views expressed in the consultation will be taken into account when the planning application for the wall is submitted early next year.

“I hope lots of people will come to see the proposals and register their comments and views,” said Councillor Neil Crooks, chairman of Kirkcaldy Area Committee,.

“Parts of the prom are over 20 years old and are looking a bit shabby, but the new scheme includes improved shelters, seating and lighting as well as better flood defences.

Face

“I would urge everyone to have their say in these improvements which will change the face of Kirkcaldy.”

Anyone interested in seeing the plans can find out more and provide their opinion by attending the event next Wednesday, where Council officers will be available to answer any questions.
