FIFERS are being urged to help a Kirkcaldy-based charity win a brand new house worth up to £250,000.
Fife Society for the Blind, based at Fife Sensory Impairment Centre in Wilson Avenue, is one of 24 charities across the UK which have been shortlisted in the competition by Persimmon Homes.
The housebuilder has launched the contest to mark its 40th birthday and is giving away a special prize to a regionally-based registered UK charity - a home up to the value of £250,000.
Persimmon is also giving away runner up prizes of £6000 to charities towards their good causes.
Successful
Fife Society for the Blind submitted a bid to enter and if successful, it will use the property as a demonstration, assessment and teaching home to help those with sighting difficulties.
People are being asked to vote online every day until September 20 to decide which charity should win by visiting www.40.persimmonhomes.com/vote
Lindsey McDonald, trainee marketing co-ordinator, said: “There were over three and a half thousand charity entries and from that we were selected to represent the East of Scotland region as one of the final 24.
“If we win, we would like to convert the house into a demonstration assessment home. It will feature task lighting, using different types of lighting to help people with visual impairment; markings on equipment and the use of tonal contrast in decoration particularly in the kitchen with special markings on ovens.
Independence
“We will use the home to show clients how they can gain independence in their lives and how they can adapt to living in a home on their own.”
She added that if they win the house they will also create a sensory garden.
Gordon Brown MP, honorary president of FSB, said: “I was delighted to hear the wonderful news that Fife Society for the Blind has been shortlisted.
“I am calling on all Fifers to get behind a campaign to ensure that Fife Society for the Blind gets the highest number of public votes from across the UK. I hope everyone can join me in voting for Fife.”
