Helping to keep everyone ‘kozy’
A KIRKCALDY project has secured substantial funding to help target the issue of fuel poverty in the town.
Greener Kirkcaldy, a grassroots environmental organisation based in the High Street, has been awarded £49,431 by the ScottishPower Energy People Trust.
The funding will be used to support a new project called Kozy Kirkcaldy Kids, which will provide energy efficiency help and advice to families with children younger than 16 and expectant mothers.
Greener Kirkcaldy believed a dedicated advice service was needed for those with young children as it noticed this group of people can often struggle with affordable warmth.
This group has increased energy bills due to more people being in the home and parents staying indoors for longer periods to look after their young children.

Through the new scheme, families will be able to access information at a free drop-in advice centre and Kozy Kirkcaldy Kids advice workers will be working in the community to promote the services it offers, visiting mother and toddler groups and having a presence at local gala days.

Families with babies and young children will already be under a great deal of stress, so a project like Kozy Kirkcaldy Kids is an ingenious venture to help with fuel bills and energy efficiency advice.
“We’re delighted that with the help of ScottishPower Energy People Trust’s funding it will be able to better help those with young families.”
Affordable
Suzy Goodsir, project manager of Greener Kirkcaldy, said: “We would like to thank ScottishPower Energy People Trust for its support and funding for the Kozy Kirkcaldy Kids project.
“It will enable us to target our assistance to a specific group of people in the area and help everyone achieve affordable warmth.
“People may not realise the additional household pressures placed on young families and finding it difficult to pay fuel bills is a worry that nobody needs.
“Our specialist advisors are here to help offer realistic and practical advice on home efficiency and sustainable energy to expectant mums to help them plan ahead as well as offering advice to those who are parents already.”
