The Thornton ladies have made history

HISTORY has been made at one of the area’s oldest golf clubs.

For the first time, the three most senior positions at Thornton are all held by ladies.

Club spokesman, Geoff Sampson, explained: “The club, now in its 91st year, have had Hazel Cree as the club’s captain, with her two year reign coming to an end at the end of January.

“Recently, at the seniors’ annual general meeting, Cath Baldwin took over as their captain.

“And and soon to be going into her second year is Jill Wallace, the ladies captain.

“This is the first time in all these years where there have been three ladies presiding over the club’s affairs.”

The trio of ladies gathered for a landmark picture at a Christmas gathering held in the Club House.
