Todd and Kelly Dutiaume

KIRKCALDY’S close-knit hockey family is united in grief this week after the shock death of the wife of Fife Flyers’ player coach, Todd Dutiaume, and her unborn twins.

Kelly Dutiaume (38), died suddenly after taking ill on Monday night.

She was rushed to Victoria Hospital but medics were unable to save her or her babies who were due within days.

Tributes have poured in from players, teams and leagues - and this weekend’s matches acrossd the UK will begin with a minute’s silence.

Messages of sympathy and support have also poured in online.

The couple met through the sport after Dutiaume signed for Flyers in 1999/2000.

Kelly, nee Hamilton, was from Kirkcaldy and attended Kirkcaldy High School. She met Todd, (38), - who hails from Winnipeg in Canada - through friends more than a decade ago.

They married in 2005 and have a daughter, Olivia (3).

Kelly was well-known in the town and previously worked in the Halifax/Bank of Scotland, and latterly at Loughborough Road Clinic.

She and Olivia were hugely popular figures at Fife Ice Arena where they regularly attended matches.

The couple were delighted when they discovered they were expecting twins and were eagerly awaiting the births, with Todd’s mum flying in from Canada.

The club issued a statement saying: “Our thoughts, prayers and support are with Todd at this sad and difficult time.”

Players from the club met on Tuesday night to rally round and offer their support to their popular coach and friend.

Offering its condolences, the Elite Ice Hockey League said: “Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”

Todd’s tribute:

‘‘At a time which is supposed to be the most joyous of our lives this tragedy has turned our world upside down.

Kelly was a fantastic mother, wife, daughter and one of the gentlest and kindest individuals you could ever hope to have in your life. Myself, Olivia and all the family would like to thank everyone for their support, kind thoughts and wishes at this very difficult time.”
