A RUN-DOWN section of a Glenrothes industrial estate has become a dumping ground for burnt-out vehicles claims an angry local, reports KEVIN QUINN.

The north-west corner of Whitehill Industrial Estate has fallen into ruin in recent years, as its owners look to flatten the old empty units and build hundreds of homes. Lincoln Land were last week granted planning permission in principle for their ambitious plans (see page five) which would effectively create a whole new community on the edge of Glenrothes.

However, one of the few residents currently living on the estate has spoken of his disgust at the vandalism and mess that frequently appears at the far end of Whitehill Road.

The disgruntled man who didn’t want to be named said: “It’s shocking that this is allowed to go on.

“Last week a caravan was set on fire and left. It’s scary to think that this is happening close to homes. It happens quite a lot, people come and dump all sorts. We have had a lot of vehicles set on fire and left to burn.

“The fire brigade and police come out but nothing really gets done and it keeps happening.

“It can be quite intimidating and scary down here at night. We are a bit isolated and I sometimes think we have been forgotten about.

“I know there are plans to re-build this area and they can’t come quick enough.”

Fife Constabulary are appealing for witnesses regarding the caravan fire. Constable Tamara Ramzi, who is leading the enquiry, said: “The caravan was parked near to one of the units in the industrial estate and the fire is believed to have started around 8:20pm on the 6th of June. I ask anyone who has any information regarding this crime to come forward and call 0845 600 5702.”

Fife Fire and Rescue confirmed that they were called out to deal with a caravan on fire last week at the estate, as well as two separate incidents in March involving derelict cars.
