Residents in Levenmouth barely had time to get used to living with the world’s largest wind turbine when it seemed to be in the process of being dismantled.
On Thursday, the removal of one of its blades at Fife Energy Park in Methil led to speculation that it had somehow snapped off.
Readers contacted the Mail to say it looked like a definite break in one of the blades and there should maybe be a rethink on the siting of the turbine, so close to a populated area.
However, a spokesperson for Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), said the removal was part of a planned schedule of works on the turbine.
She said: “Commissioning of the offshore prototype turbine has been slightly delayed due to ongoing engineering works.
“We have removed one of the blades and expect to reinstall it in time for commissioning in early February.”
