Kinghorn duo looking to form rowing group

People of all ages with an interest in rowing are being sought to form a new group in Kinghorn.

And, as well as those keen to set up a coastal rowing club, others interested in helping fundraise to finance the venture and to help build a skiff from scratch would also be welcome.

The venture is the brainchild of Kinghorn residents Carolyn Keane and Chris Mitchell who have been promoting the possibility of forming a group by putting posters up in local shops and community facilities asking anyone interested to contact them.

Carolyn explained: “I am aware that there are a lot of coastal rowing groups around Fife and East Lothian and I have a friend who is a member of a women’s team in Portobello.

‘‘I thought that because we have two bays in Kinghorn it would be a good idea to have one here.

“It is just in the very early stages.

‘‘Chris and I have been putting posters up around Kinghorn to gauge interest and see if there are any people interested in getting involved.

‘‘From speaking to people in the pub and around town there has been a bit of feedback, but we would like to hear from more people.”

Chris added: “If we could get around a dozen or so interested then we could form a steering group and do some fundraising and hopefully get enough together to start building a boat.

‘‘That could take around six months, and would probably cost between £3500-£4000. We would also need to find somewhere to build it.

“If there is enough enthusiasm then we could maybe get one or two teams.”

Anyone interested in becoming involved in any way in a new group can contact Carolyn on (01592) 891624 or Chris on (01592) 890921.
