Kirkcaldy family abseil for Fife SANDS

The SANDS abseilers

A KIRKCALDY family is planning a big fundraising day on Saturday to say thanks to the group which helped its members through a very difficult time.

Kerri (24), and Ewan Docherty (26), from Kirkcaldy lost two babies around 20 weeks into her pregnancy within a six month period. The devastated couple, of the town’s Lawson Gardens, were helped to cope with their loss by Fife SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neo-natal Death Society.

To thank SANDS for its support and help they have organised a charity abseil from Aberdour cliffs on Saturday, in which 18 members will participate, including Kerri herself and her mum Rosie Parish (45). The action will start from around 10.00 a.m. and go on for most of the day.

Then at night the family is holding a disco and raffle, with the 120 tickets almost completely sold out. Local businesses and individuals have also rallied round, donating prizes for the raffle, while the Royal Hotel in Dysart where the event is taking place, has donated the food for free.

They are hoping to raise at least £2000 from the two events and anyone who would like to contribute to the total can do so through http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/fifesands.
