A fun event to welcome Kirkcaldy’s promenade back into public use could be delayed until December.

Organisers Ann Wood and Christine May, who both live locally, had hoped that ‘Promenade the Promenade’ would take place in October, when the work was originally scheduled to end.

However the Press was told this week that work on the north end of the wall, where it meets the stepped revetment, had taken longer than planned “due to conditions encountered on site”.

Murray Scott, lead professional, structures with Fife Council, explained that the problem had been solved but there had been “a knock-on effect extending the completion date into the first week in December.”

He said the council was working with contractor, VolkerStevin, to see if the date could be improved on.

On hearing the news, Christine May said it was “disappointing” but added: “It will give us a bit more time to organise the event now, and get more people on board.

“We have had a lot of support, including from Kirkcaldy4All, and there has been interest from a Nordic Walking group and sea swimmers about taking part too, which is great.”
