Kirkcaldy Town House is to undergo a £3 million refurbishment to create a ‘one-stop shop’ for council services.

It’s part of Fife Council’s five-year ‘Spend to Save’ programme, which will see a number of smaller offices closed and sold off, with staff moving to the one location.

Across Fife, the number of offices will be reduced from 97 to 31, with around 4700 staff being relocated.

Listed building consent for internal alterations to the layout of Town House was granted last month.

Alan Paul, property services senior manager, said: “Town House is a traditional building, with individual offices, and we need to open it up to make it more flexible and improve the quality of the working environment.

“Our aim is to provide council services in one location, making it easier and more convenient for the public.

“We’ll also be able to provide facilities for other services, such as the police and health service, and space for other uses such as adult learning classes.

“We want the building to be at the heart of the community.”

The sale of surplus offices is expected to bring in £12.4 million.
