Lantern tribute in Kirkcaldy to little Mikaeel.

Waiting for Video...

Around 200 people braved a cold and very wet night at Kirkcaldy’s Pathhead sands on Friday to pay a poignant tribute to tragic youngster Mikaeel Kular.

Despite the inclement weather, young and old, children, grandparents and families gathered on the beach with colourful lanterns, candles and balloons to remember the three-year-old whose body was discovered in woodland behind his former home in Kirkcaldy’s Dunvegan Avenue last week.

At the same time, people gathered on the opposite side of the Forth at Cramond in Edinburgh to bring together the two communities where little Mikaeel lived during his short life.

The event was organised by Cardenden woman Cara Cameron and her friend Hayley Clements who lives in Edinburgh.

The conditions threatened to spoil the occasion but eventually the lanterns and balloons were released into the sky, the wind carrying them across the town rather than out to sea, making them visible to people in all parts of Kirkcaldy.

The lack of moonlight and the rain made filming difficult but this short video gives a brief taste of the event.
