Largo speed limit introduced

MOVES to reduce the speed limit along the A915 from Lower to Upper Largo have been approved and welcomed.
The road is currently derestricted at 60mph but will be set at 40mph after local concerns regarding the speed of traffic approaching Upper Largo.
Councillors of the Levenmouth area committee met to hear the proposal at their monthly meeting, and were unanimous in their support for it.
Councillor Marilyn Whitehead, though, said: “I have two concerns.
“I hope there won’t be too many signs at Lower Largo because it is still a rural route.
“There are also chevrons which are covered by bushes at the moment, so can I make a plea that somebody takes ownership of that piece of land so they are visible at all times.”
The speed limit reduction has also been backed by MSP for the area, Tricia Marwick.
Mrs Marwick had been contacted by a number of constituents who have expressed concern about speeding motorists on this section of the A915.
She also made representations to both Levenmouth police and Fife Council to ask what efforts have been made to increase the safety of it.
“The proposal for a 40 mph speed limit is a sensible suggestion which should improve the safety of this road,” she said.
“Not only will this new limit help control vehicle speeds on this stretch of road, it will also encourage motorists to slow down earlier before they enter both Lundin Links and Upper Largo.
“As the constituency MSP, I will continue to do what I can to highlight this issue.”
