Leven park gets the green light

FIFE Employment Access Trust (FEAT) has had its bid to takeover a Leven park officially rubber-stamped by Fife Council.
Councillors at the local authority’s executive committee agreed last week to grant the mental health charity a 12-month exclusivity period to develop proposals for the long-term management of Silverburn.
The entire park, which was advertised as three separate lots, will now be taken off the market to give FEAT a chance to further its business plan and secure funding.
The committee’s blessing had to be given despite it already being widely accepted since late 2012 that FEAT would be allowed the first crack at managing the popular attraction.
In fact, FEAT has already held a public engagement workshop to gauge how residents would like to see it operate the park.
However whilst Councillor Tom Adams, chair of the Levenmouth area committee, expressed the Council’s support for FEAT he warned it would have to come up with the goods over the next year to make it a done deal.
He added: “We’ll have to see whether funding can be secured to support a sustainable business model, but I look forward to seeing the concept turned into a concrete plan that we can take a final decision on.
“I hope FEAT can help us make the most of the beautiful natural surroundings and return the buildings to some of their former glory.”
Gardener’s Question Time will take place on March 27 in Blacketyside Farm Shop from 7 p.m.
