Locals angered by the change of bus service

ALL CHANGE: Residents are angry about route changes to the 39 bus service in the Macedonia area.

RESIDENTS say they have been ‘left stranded’ following changes made by Stagecoach Bus Company to the number 39 bus route reports, NEIL HENDERSON.

Already, around a hundred angry locals have signed a petition which is hoped will force the bus company to overturn changes made to the service in February.

Residents insist the amendments, which now mean passengers can travel to Glenrothes Bus station via Roxburgh Road, but can’t get dropped off at Roxburgh Road on the way back has made the service a ‘disaster’.

The changes have proved especially difficult for those families living in Macedonia, particularly for the elderly and parents with young children.

The only way to get to Roxburgh Road on route back from the town centre is to stay on the bus right up to Newcastle before it starts it’s returns journey.

Further more, the cost has risen 40 pence to £1.55 which many regular passengers say they can not afford.

Linda Houston from Macedonia said: “The rise in the fare is an insult plus anyone wanting to get to Roxburgh Road on the way back has to stay on the bus which means an extra 20 minutes at least.”

Another regular 39 bus user, Mary Kinnaird Macedonia said: “ The inconvenience is the main issue, it seems totally pointless to have made these changes.”

A spokesperson for Stagecoach said: “We constantly assess and revise our routes and services to bring with the aim of bringing the most cost-effective and reliable service.

“We have not been made aware of any petition or customer dissatisfaction but will continue to monitor the situation.”
