Madras band seeks donations

Madras College Pipe Band

Madras College Pipe Band

Madras College Pipe Band is celebrating 21 years of piping and drumming success.

And it is using the anniversary to appeal for funds to ensure its continued success.

Led by Roddy Barron, bagpipe instructor, the band provides opportunities for pupils of Madras College and its feeder primary schools to learn pipes and drums.

Many St Andrews citizens will have thrilled to the stirring sound of the band performing at events such as the annual St Andrews Day procession, Burns suppers, golf championship events and even in practice at Madras College on South Street.

Around 60 pupils are currently learning pipes and drums at Madras with the band having around 30 members.

It has a wide repertoire, including both well-known pieces and several specially composed pieces.

The Pipe Band is self-funded and relies on donations and fundraising, both to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to receive tuition, whatever their financial circumstances, and to provide kilt outfits and equipment.

In the current financial climate fundraising is ever more important so the band welcomes donations from individuals and businesses and is available for events as a full band, mini band or solo pipers.

If you’d like to make a donation or book the band or pipers, contact Roddy Barron or Lorna Talbot, tel. 07909 013033 or email: madrascollege.enquiries@fife.gov.uk.
