Man admits bowling club assault

A MAN was left with severe spinal injuries after being punched to the ground at Strathmiglo Bowling Club, a court has heard.

Mark Hill (48) admitted assaulting Eric Flynn to his severe injury and permanent impairment when he appeared at Cupar Sheriff Court today (Thursday, August 16).

The full facts of the case will be heard when Hill, of High Street, is sentenced on September 13.

Defence agent Jaclyn Meisel told the court Hill was pleading guilty to the charge on indictment.

The allegation stated that on Boxing Day last year, Hill assaulted Mr Flynn by punching him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground, all to his severe injury and permanent impairment.

Depute procurator fiscal Neil Almond said: “This is a rather unusual case in that the significant thing is not so much the initial assault but the consequences arising from it.

“The complainer, Mr Flynn, suffered very severe spinal injuries for which I understand he is still receiving treatment.

“The last update we received regarding his progress and his injuries was six weeks ago.”

Mr Almond suggested a full narration of events be postponed until a more up-to-date picture of Mr Flynn’s condition was available.

Sheriff Charles Macnair agreed and deferred sentence for reports.
