Man in court over ‘sponsor’ bid

A 34-year-old man has appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court after allegedly carrying out a scheme to obtain sponsorship money from several elderly women in the Glenrothes and Leslie areas.

PC Susan McGuire, who led the inquiry, said: “If you have any information about this type of crime or if you have been a victim please contact Fife Police.

“If anyone calls at your door asking for money please check their identification to ensure that they are genuine.

“If you are at all suspicious of them please contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702.”
