Methilhill’s many happy returns ...

PUPILS and staff from Methilhill Primary celebrated returning to their own school recently, almost a year after being decanted to Buckhaven High.
The school was forced to up sticks last Easter to allow work to replace its badly leaking roof.
That work has now been carried out and the pupils were welcomed back with a special assembly attended by Provost of Fife, Jim Leishman.
Work to repair the damaged roof, which had been besieged with problems of theft and vandalism over a prolonged period of time, began in December 2011 and was part of Fife Council’s Wind and Watertight investment programme to improve and maintain the kingdom’s school buildings.
As well as the roof, which is full insulated and contains solar control glass to reduce heat loss during the winter months and stores heat when it’s sunny, the £2.8 million project also included the installation of a sprinkler system throughout the school; new lighting; new decor and carpets for all classrooms; and upgrades to glazing and the CCTV system.
More solar panels are to be added during this year’s Easter break.
Barbara Thomson, headteacher, said: “We’re delighted with what is almost a brand new school and are very happy to be back!
“I’d like to thank John, Alan, Jim and the rest of the team from the Council’s property and building services who have done such a fabulous job.
“We’re very thankful for all the hard work everyone has put in to this project to improve Methilhill Primary School.”
Cllr Leishman added: “I’m delighted to share in the excitement this project has created, the energy levels amongst pupils and staff is electric!
“The work carried out at Methilhill has certainly made a positive improvement to the learning environment and like Barbara, I would like to say well done and thank you to everyone who has been involved.”
