PLANS to make money out of waste management and other related activities are being explored by Fife Council.

The Council’s executive committee has given support in principle to proposals to establish an arms length external organisation which might be able to generate income from waste treatment and disposal, energy generation and supply, and related consultancy services.

A report to councillors suggested income of up to £15.6m could be achieved in the first five years of operation.

Councillor Linda Erskine, executive member for finance and corporate services, said it was ‘vital’ the Council looked for new ways to raise income but stressed the plans needed to be considered in detail, and would be examined by the scrutiny committee.
