Motorist caught doing 149 mph near Kirkcaldy
Nearly 300 motorists still driving legally despite accumulating 12 points on license
POLICE in Fife have stopped the driver of a sports car allegedly travelling at 149 mph - more than twice the national speed limit - on the A92 dual-carriageway near Kirkcaldy.
The 46-year-old driver of the E-class Mercedes-Benz car will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal, following the incident around 11 p.m. last night (Wednesday).
Chief Inspector David McCulloch, head of road policing for Fife Police, said: “Traffic officers were carrying out speed checks on the A92 last night when they recorded a car being driven at one of the fastest speeds I have ever come across.
“The driver was stopped in Kirkcaldy and due to the very high speed, will be reported for dangerous driving.
“The consequences of a tyre blow-out or other mechanical failure at this speed would have been catastrophic for the driver and also posed a serious threat to other road users and members of the public.”
