The Murray Library

FIFE Council has agreed to contribute £200,000 to the restoration of Anstruther’s Murray Library.

Councillors, at a meeting of the executive committee, agreed to allocate the money to provide match funding to a European Regional Development Fund application made by the Murray Library Trust.

The successful outcome is the final piece in a complex funding process of two rounds of applications made over the past two years.

The Murray Library Trust plans to convert the library into a backpackers’ hostel and transform its former snooker hall area into seven business units.

It is hoped around 10 jobs will be created.

The money brings the total contribution of Fife Council to the Anstruther Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI)/Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme up to £375,000.
