Mystery surrounds cloud in sea off Buckhaven coast

A question mark hangs over a mysterious plume in the Forth just off Buckhaven after Marine Scotland said it would have to investigate the matter further.

Mail reader and microlight pilot John Whitfield spotted the strange mark in the water during a flight over the coast.

Mr Whitfield believes the bright green cloud, which sits around one kilometer off the shore at Buckhaven, could perhaps be a pollution plume caused by old mine workings.

The Mail contacted Marine Scotland to address the matter, but it was concluded that a further investigation would be needed.

A spokesman said: “Marine Scotland is investigating though without a water sample it is difficult to say with confidence what might have caused it.”
