The owners of a new bar and restaurant in Kirkcaldy turned their dream into a reality when their new business opened its doors at the weekend.

Callum and Lynn Robertson have breathed new life into the former Toro Spanish bar and grill through the launch of ‘50 High Street’ in the town’s west end.

Callum, of Callum Robertson Funeral Directors, told the Press they opened last Friday and were pleased with how the first few days went.

He said: “It was pretty manic two or three days before we opened and I didn’t know how we were going to be able to do it on time - but we did!

‘‘The opening weekend was great - the place was full. We had no idea what to expect but it filled up very quickly.

“It’s great to finally see people in and to see it buzzing.”

He continued: “My funeral business is still my first priority, but I know I have a good team here who will look after things and Lynn will be here from Thursdays onwards through the weekend.

“In my line of work the one thing I hear a lot is people saying ‘I wish I had’ and this is why we decided to seize the moment and just go for it.”

His wife Lynn said: “Having our own place like this is something we have talked about for years but the opportunity never arose, so when this became available we decided this was the time to do it.”

Callum and Lynn had originally been due to go into the venture in partnership with their friend Bryan Reid, who owned the Dining Room in Kirkcaldy and The Clubhouse in Dalgety Bay.

But unfortunately he is no longer involved after the financial stability of his businesses suddenly collapsed recently.

Callum said: “It was sad the way it happened and it came like a bolt.

‘‘But we had already invested and decided to still go ahead. We have been able to take on some of the staff from his businesses and Bryan has been really helpful - he has a lot of knowledge and expertise. He will bounce back from this.”
