New bid for Muiredge residential scheme

A FRESH attempt is being made to secure plans for a residential development at the former Diosynth site in Buckhaven.

Fife Council has so far resisted moves by the land owners at Percival Road to provide a 30-bed care home, residential properties and sheltered housing facility.

The authority has decided the ground at Muiredge industrial estate should be protected for local employment purposes, while it also had concerns about effects on road safety and residential amenities.

However, owner Janette Penman has lodged another application – for planning permission in principle – for a residential development.

An agent said the applicants still intended to pursue the project, which would be of undoubted benefit to the community, and they hoped common sense would prevail.

It would create employment and feature affordable housing for rent, added the agent, while private funding would mean no request for money from the public purse.

Fife Council, which was interested in the site for a low-carbon investment park, supporting the Energy Park at Methil, has recently lodged an application itself, linked to the development of a business park.
