NEW ST ANDREWS HARBOURMASTER IN POST

It could safely be said that David Martin has the sea in his blood

His father and grandfather were fishermen in the town and a picture of his grandfather as a member of the lifeboat crew hangs in his new office.

David, who will combine the part-time post with his successful business, St Andrews Jewellery Workshop, is looking forward to continuing the good work of the St Andrews Harbour Trust through his new post, improving services to boat owners and building up the number of pleasure boats using the harbour.

His main duties will involve operating the lock gates, keeping the area clean and tidy and looking after boat owners.

The former working fisherman and ex-harbour trustee has a passion for his native town's harbour and is glad that, having sold his working boat and given up his place as a trustee, the job will enable him to stay involved.

"I've always been part of the fishing fraternity here,'' he explained.
