Nightclub knocked back for town centre
A POTENTIAL new nightclub in the town centre has been knocked back, reports KEVIN QUINN.
Zoo nightclub obtained a licence to re-open the nightclub in Carrick Gate (formerly Club Illusion) but were stopped over concerns it could affect neighbouring businesses.
Zoo Nightclub Managing Director Michael Jordan is upset that he couldn’t provide young people with something to do at the weekends.
He said: “I am angry about this. I have spent £3,000 just getting the licence and cleaning the place up to get health and safety approval.
“There is nothing I can do now.
“As far as I can see there is no future or possibility for a nightclub in the town centre.
“There is not a genuine nightclub in Glenrothes, the only thing is Styx and it’s more of a pool hall stroke mobile disco.
“I wanted to give young people there something that was real. A place the size of Glenrothes should have a nightclub.”
Brian Fraser is the landlord of the unit. He pointed out that other lease-holders nearby would be affected by a nightclub.
He said: “The nightclub is vacant and I was going to let Zoo in there but the problem is it could interfere with neighbouring tenants.”
