North east Fife motorists caught out in road safety drive

A NUMBER of drivers were caught on the wrong side of the law after a weekend of action by the Fife Safety Camera Partnership last month.
Between September 21-23, 65 driving offences were detected, including 18 speeding offences as Fife Police targeted rural and country roads as well as young drivers in north east Fife.
An initiative had been set up which saw an increased policing presence with marked and unmarked vehicles and camera vehicles deployed in the area.
A total of 50 per cent of the offences reported were committed by drivers in the 17-25 age group, and includes offences such as speeding, document offences, failure to wear seatbelts, and anti-social behaviour warnings.
Only two crashes were recorded over the same period, both one vehicle minor crashes, with no injuries caused as a result.
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, Fife Police’s new head of road policing, said: “This was a very disappointing result, with so many offences being committed.
“It does show, however, the effectiveness of the police initiative.
“It sends a very strong message to drivers, particularly those in the high-risk 17-25 age group, that if they do drive inappropriately we will catch them.”
The safety cameras are, as always, out and about on the Kingdom’s roads this week.
Locally they will be focussing on the B942 Pittenweem to Colinsburgh, the A911 Glenrothes to Windygates and the A915 Windygates to Kirkcaldy roads.
