Objections to council allotment proposals

RESIDENTS in a Pittenweem street say they’ll oppose plans to create an allotment space and community garden in the area.

Fife Council has recently published details of an application to change the use of a piece of public open space at Braehead Road into plots.

The drawings show seven plots, plot holder sheds, a poly-tunnel and compost area.

However, residents near to the street met on Thursday to discuss the proposal – and arrange their opposition to it.

Goldie Wood, who has lived on Braehead Road for 41 years, told the Mail: “The main problem is going to be with the parking.

“The access road is a very narrow track between the back of my house and other neighbours.

“It can get very busy around here during the festival but we’ll have seven cars and maybe seven trailers using the road all the time.

“This is a very small area of land, where they are going to put seven allotments?”

The application to create the allotments, which now appears on Fife Council’s website, has already received several letters of objection.

In recent years there has been a scramble and huge demand for allotment spaces with Buckhaven opening a similar project at Omar Crescent.

However, an online complainant, Mr William Lauder, added: “I feel this is yet another council scheme that has been not thoroughly thought through properly and without consideration for immediate residents.”
