Off the Rails Arthouse based at Ladybank Station, is on track to present an exhibition of watercolours and prints by artist Jane Murray.
Entitled The Kitchen Garden, Jane’s artworks celebrate natural form in all its glory.
Jane has painted and drawn all her life.
For a number of years she lived in Ceres and had regular exhibitions in Fife and Perthshire. She now lives in Northumberland and is delighted to be returning to the area to meet up with old friends.
Working from a studio which looks out over fields to the sea, Jane’s interest in natural forms is unabated. She grows irises and poppies annually and to collect leaves, bark and lichen.
Her knowledge of wild flowers and plants is extensive. Her father was a great influence on her artistic development by walking with her every weekend in the countryside near the river Thames and teaching her how to really look at nature. From him she learned the names of wildflowers and learned to love their subtle colours and form.
Several years ago she had a eureka moment when admiring a magnificent allotment full of beautiful red cabbages. They weren’t just to be admired or even eaten but could be painted!
This eye-opening experience led to a collection of vegetable paintings which included onions, radishes, chard and turnips. These will be on show in Ladybank together with the flowers traditionally associated with kitchen and cottage gardens. All of these artworks demonstrate her wonderful sense of colour, her superb draughtsmanship and her unique watercolour technique. As well as original paintings there will cards and limited edition prints for sale.
The free exhibition runs from Saturday, April 5 to Sunday, April 13 (with the exception of Saturday, April 12). The artist will be in residence each week day from 1pm - 5pm and on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Sunday 13th from 10am - 5pm.
Jane is also keen to pass on her skills to others. She is offering a one day workshop for beginners called ‘Introduction to Watercolour’ on Saturday, April 12. For details visit www.offtherailsarthouse.com
