A promising young St Andrews archer could be on target for future Olympic Games glory.

While many sports-mad youngsters will have been dreaming of such success after the inspiring medal performances of Team GB in London earlier this month, eight-year-old Geordie Harrow has already started the long journey to what he hopes will bear fruit.

A P4 pupil of Strathkinness Primary School, Geordie is the youngest boy ever to be selected for the Scottish Archery Academy, which is part of Archery Academy GB and open to talented bowmen aged 19 years and under.

Geordie is a member of the Kingdom of Fife Fletchers and Cupar Bowmen Archery Clubs and is also an accomplished shot, shooting small-bore and air rifles and shotguns.

The academy provides a wonderful opportunity for young Scottish archers to fulfil their dream to become part of the GB Archery team, the Commonwealth Games team and also the Olympic squad.

Training for major success in any sport takes a lot of patience, hard work and determination and for those hoping to reach the higher echelons of archery it is important to hone their skills and continue to improve.

Being with the academy will give the St Andrews youngster his own personal training plan and continuous support in performance.

Geordie’s mum, Bev, told the Citizen:”To facilitate this, the St Andrews University Archery Club has very kindly offered Geordie the use of their indoor training facilities to save him having to travel to Edinburgh once it becomes too dark to shoot outdoors at home.”

Geordie, who is the youngest of three children of George and Bev Harrow, will be attending training sessions across Scotland where he will join other members of the academy.
