One more boogie with Jackie O

THE legendary Jackie O era is about to be recreated for one night only ... for our Maggie’s Centre.
The sounds and spirit of the legendary Kirkcaldy disco is being brought back by Society for a special charity party.
It is staging a reunion for the clubbers who flocked to its great nights - including the nfamous ‘grab a granny’ nights - and recall the many walks through the ‘tunnel of love!’’
And the proceeds of the night on Friday, March 1, will help boost our Maggie’s Centre.
Society is literally next door to where Jackie O once stood on the Esplanade, and the organisers for a bumper turn out as they turn back the clock.
Leigh Snowdon, events manager at Society, told The Press: “We wanted to do a reunion night and relate it to a charity.
‘‘We spoke with Maggie’s Fife and agreed all the ticket proceeds will go to them.’’
On the night, the music will span the decades from the 1960s onwards, and the cocktail bar will serve retro drinks to capture the spirit of Jackie O.

And Fifers are being challenged to dig out their best disco gear from the old days to enter into a fun competition.
The organisers are hoping to track down old pictures from the club’s heyday, and are toying with recreating the famous mirrored tunnel!
While Jackie O was demolished at the end of last year to make way for flats and a hotel, the name retains many memories for generations of folk in Kirkcaldy - and they can enjoy a great night out and help their local cancer care centre.
Alistair Cameron, a member of the new Maggie’s Fife Associate Fundraising Board, said: “We have to to thank Kieran and all the staff at Society for getting involved in their first ever event with Maggie’s - I hope it is the first of many.
“The reunion will be a great night and bring back some fabulous memories of how Jackie O’s used to be, including the tunnel and the cheeky tunes. It is for a great cause and I hope as many people as possible support it. It will also be an opportunity to meet up with folk they haven’t seen for many years.”
Tu Edwards, community fundraiser for Maggie’s Fife and Forth Valley, said: “I know Jackie O is a part of Kirkcaldy’s history so for Maggie’s to be the beneficiary of what’s expected to be a fun and exciting reunion is brilliant.”
