Pair’s pedal power
Gill Downs after her Pedal for Parkinson's journey with partner John Davidson.
A LEVEN couple saddled up and used two wheels to raise money for charity.
Gill Downs (31) and partner John Davidson (30) took part in a 60-mile cycling challenge in Stirling for Parkinson’s UK in honour of Gill’s dad Gordon (59), who was diagnosed with the condition 14 years ago.
She explained: “It’s heartbreaking to see him so frail and ill. But by doing something proactive like taking part in Pedal for Parkinson’s, I have, hopefully, made a difference.”
The 60-mile circular route headed west towards Aberfoyle, climbing into the Trossachs National Park then east towards Callander through to Doune and back into Stirling.
Paul Jackson-Clark, director of fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Every hour someone is told they have Parkinson’s. Despite this, very little is known about the condition and we are incredibly grateful to Gill and John for their support in helping us to make more people aware of it.”
