Pittenweem Pharmacy Christmas video 2011

A CHRISTMAS single made in Pittenweem has raised nearly £400 for charity, despite sadly flopping in the charts.

Readers may remember the Mail featured an attempt, last December, by the Pittenweem Pharmacy to land the coveted Christmas number one spot with its novelty track ‘Pittenweem Pharmacy Charity Single 2011’.

The track became an online hit, leading to 15 minutes of fame for the village’s only pharmacy when it received celebrity endorsements and even a mention in Parliament at Holyrood.

However with fierce competition from the X Factor winners and the Military Wives the song missed out on entering the chart, with only 90 downloads – a bit of a dissapointment for those involved.

At the time, the pharmacy’s manager Iain Rooney, who wrote the track, remained upbeat knowing that, despite not reaching musical stardom, he had done some good in raising money for charity through the sales and publicity the song had received.

However with the music industry taking so long to finalise figures and make payments it is not until now that the total figure raised can be confirmed as £366.

A pleased Mr Rooney said: “We had a lot of fun along the way and would like to sincerely thank all the people who donated to the cause.

“We achieved over 10,000 YouTube views and had a successful media campaign with local and national newspaper coverage; 10 minutes on Fred MacAulay’s show on Radio Scotland; a studio guest appearance on Kingdom FM and public backing on Twitter from Alan Carr, Gareth Malone and the Military Wives Choir and Ian Rankine amongst others.

“In the end additional collections in store helped raise our total to £366 which we have split between our two charities RNLI and the East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal (£183 each).”
