KIRKCALDY Museum and Library will re-open with an exhibition of the town’s best oil and acrylic paintings - and you can decide what goes on display.

With over 600 paintings in their collection, those behind the ‘People’s Pictures’ project will ask Fifers to vote for their favourites online, with a selection of paintings to be displayed every month, running until December.

Isabel McNab from Kirkcaldy Library revealed more about the exhibition, which will go on display next Spring when the building re-opens.

She said: “There are so many paintings in our collection, so we want people to vote on their favourites.

“Some of the paintings are already online, but more will appear shortly.

“We are also going to be producing a set of five leaflets, which will be themed and released monthly from July.

“We are trying to get as many ways as possible to show them to the public so they can decide what goes on display.

Online

“We hope to launch the website pictures in mid-July, and then every month we will have a different selection for people to view.”

Website voting will decide which artwork is given a public outing, and the organisers are hoping local folk will get involved.

Added Isabel: “Because there are so many pieces which have rarely been seen, we thought it would be a good idea to re-open the building with this as the first exhibition, and get local people involved.”

First vote

Some of the amazing works in their collection are on the Fife Direct website and on the BBC website as part of their digitalisation project.

Isabel said that this exhibition will be the first of its kind on such a scale, adding that the collection is currently stored in various sites across Fife, some of which haven’t been seen by the public for years.
