Pitscottie girl wins Miss Teen Galaxy title

THE most beautiful teenager in the world lives just outside Pitscottie — and that's official!

Following her triumph in a UK qualifying heat, 17-year-old Emma McInnes has been crowned Miss Teen Galaxy at an international beauty pageant in Florida.

Emma, who works locally as a fitness instructor, fought off competition from girls from across the globe during the six-day event at a luxury resort in Tampa.

The former Bell Baxter High School and Madras College pupil said she was "shocked, but very happy" after hearing the result.

She said: "I just couldn't believe it when they said I'd won.

"There were some amazing girls there, so to win it was a big honour."

But there was no time for Emma to bask in her glory — no sooner had she touched down in Scotland than she was hot-footing it to St Andrews to help judge the 'Fife's Got Talent' competition at the Byre Theatre.

Emma had previously booked her place in Tampa by winning March's national heat in Manchester.

After some intensive pageantry coaching in London, she was ready to take part in the gruelling final.

CLINCHED

As well as swimsuit, fashion and evening wear rounds, Emma was required to undergo a five-minute personal interview.

It was her performance in this round, in which her Scottish accent went down a storm, that clinched the title.

Emma said: "Most people think beauty pageants are just about picking the prettiest girl.

"But they're really looking for someone with a great personality, who can use the title to promote the competition and become a good role model."

She hopes to put her status as Miss Teen Galaxy to good use over the next year, with bullying being an issue particularly close to her heart.

"I had to move from Madras to Bell Baxter when I was 14 because of bullying," she said.

"Other kids picked on me for having tanned skin.

"Now I want to raise awareness and campaign against bullying."

As part of her prize, Emma will be flown back to Florida to crown next year's winner.

But before that, she is hoping to embark on a modelling career.

"Obviously I'm hoping that having the title will help me with that," she said.

"But in London it's all about being size zero — and I'm never going to be that.

"I want to help promote a healthy body image."
