Police move to new St Andrews station

Preparations are now well under way for policing services in St Andrews to move from its present base in the town centre to a brand new headquarters in Pipeland Road next week.

Fife Constabulary has had its police station in St Andrews at the current premises in North Street for more than 100 years.

However, Chief Inspector Jill Harper has made it clear that Fife Constabulary will continue to have a town centre presence following the move, with the main library in Church Square hosting a ‘drop-in’ point where members of the public can speak to a police officer on a direct phone link.

In addition, the current arrangements for a campus-based police officer with St Andrews University will remain unchanged.

Chief Inspector Harper told the Citizen:”We are looking forward to moving to our new police station, which will take us closer to the heart of the St Andrews community. The telephone number for contacting us remains unchanged at 0845 600 5702 or 999 in an emergency.”

The new local headquarters, based in the former St Andrews health centre, have been completely redeveloped by Fife Council over the last few months and will be open to the public from next Thursday (August 2).

The building offers premises which are fit for 21st century policing and has full disabled access, easy parking and better facilities for dealing with the public.

The force has taken over the lease of the new building until 2078 for a one-off payment of £105,000 and will also share its facilities with other agencies.

Once the transfer of operations is complete, it is envisaged that the North Street property will be sold as soon as is practicable and, due to its prime location, is expected to attract significant interest.
