Police station may move into County Buildings

CUPAR police station could be moving into the County Buildings.

Fife Constabulary has confirmed it is looking into the move, 50 years after the opening of a divisional headquarters on Carslogie Road.

A spokesman for the force said: “Fife Constabulary is examining an option to move from the current premises at Carslogie Road to the former County Buildings in Cupar.

“It is, however, only an option at this stage.

“There are a number of important issues to be considered before a final decision can be taken by the force.”

It has been rumoured that officers and support staff would be based in the south east of County Buildings, adjacent to Waterend Road, should the money-saving move be rubber stamped.

There are also suggestions the Carslogie Road site could be turned into housing, similar to the old Bell Baxter development at West Port.

The divisional headquarters on Carslogie Road was officially opened on March 30, 1962, by John Maclay MP, Secretary of State for Scotland.

That followed the 1949 amalgamation of the Cupar-based Fife County Police with the forces of Kirkcaldy Burgh and Dunfermline City, forming Fife Constabulary.
