RIMBLETON Primary School is gearing up for its 50th birthday and is looking for people to help them celebrate, reports KEVIN QUINN.

The school on Bilsland Road will have a special open day on Friday, 22 June. This will give pupils the chance to showcase everything they have learnt to coincide with the school’s birthday.

Headteacher Ewan Trousdale explained what Rimbleton pupils have been doing for the occasion.

He said: “It’s a big focus for the school, all of our topic learning is to do with our 50th, everybody is looking at Glenrothes and the changes that have happened since the school opened.

“All of the classes will share what they have learnt on 22 June. Each class will showcase their learning.

“The school will be open all day for people to come in and see the exhibition.”

Mr Trousdale wants anyone with a Rimbleton connection to join in the celebrations.

He said: “We are quite keen to appeal to anyone that was a former pupil or teacher to come in and talk to the children about what the school used to be like.

“We are also looking for photos and artefacts to bring in to the school.

“We are all excited about the 50th, it’s lovely. The pupils are excited too.

“But we are really appealing for anyone with any kind of link with the school to come in or share artefacts.”

The headteacher revealed that someone connected to the school had previously handed in the opening speech and ceremony pamphlet from when Rimbleton Primary opened in August 1962.

Mr Trousdale is proud of his school and believes it is important to celebrate historic milestones.

He said: “We are a new town, but we are still proud of our heritage.

“Rimbleton is a fantastic community, in some ways it’s kind of like stepping back in time because traditional values still exist here.

“It’s rare really to see that these days.”

The school will also officially open its 50th Anniversary Community Garden on 22 June, and bury a time capsule there during a summer family picnic.
