A GLENROTHES social enterprise company held its first open day on Friday.
And it was visited by a host of Fife’s leading politicians.
MSP Tricia Marwick and Fife Provost Jim Leishman went along to see what the company has to offer the local community, its workers - and the wellbeing of the environment.
And the Provost was able to reveal details of a new deal with the firm.
He said: “I’ve really enjoyed meeting the team here and wish them the best of luck.
“This social enterprise not only offers training and employment opportunities to individuals in need of support, it also offers hope.
“But more than that, their business is supporting the environment and producing value goods for the community to buy.
“The volunteers involved obviously find their work rewarding.
“Council officers have been in talks with Castle RePaint and they’re going to start collecting paint from the local recycling centre in Glenrothes.
“If this trial works well the arrangement will be widened to include the rest of Fife’s recycling centres.”
Castle RePaint, part of the Castle Furniture Project, which started in Cupar, recycle paint and refurbish white goods and offer them for sale.
Spokeswoman Janet Rennie said: “Waste paint re-processing is a vary simple process requiring the sorting into batches of similar coloured paints, mixing them together, adding anti-fungal chemicals amd additional paints to lighten, or darkem shades producing an end product of 15 standard pastel colours, shaes and finishes.”
The organisation, which is based at Buko Business Park, offers training and volunteering opportunities, particularly supporting people with mental ill health, learning disabilities, victims of domestic and sexual abuse, ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed.
