Property owners duped by cold calls

A WARNING has been issued for residents to be on their guard after a recent increase in reports of doorstep cold callers offering to carry out home improvement works.
Fife Council says it has received several reports from locals who were duped by doorstep callers into paying for work, with much of it done to a shoddy standard.
Geoff Bates, a council service manager within protective services said: “We would strongly recommend that consumers do not deal with door-to-door callers offering home improvements, such as roofing or driveway work, as many rogue and itinerant traders operate in this way.
“If problems arise or if the agreed work is not completed then it can be extremely difficult to obtain redress as the trader cannot be contacted or refuses to come back.”
If you would like to report problems with doorstep callers or for any other consumer issue please contact Fife protective services via their partners citizens advice consumer helpline on 08454 04 05 06.
