The Royal Air Force will once again support the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo by supplying fast jet combat aircraft for a series of six flypasts.

Frontline Typhoon and Tornado GR4s from RAF Leuchars in Fife and RAF Lossiemouth in Moray will, in turn, salute the crowds at Edinburgh Castle.

Flying at 1000 feet, the aircraft will travel east to west along the Royal Mile and over the castle esplanade.

In addition, and for one night only, the world’s premier aerobatic display team, the Red Arrows, will make a special appearance on Saturday, August 9.

Air Commodore Gerry Mayhew, Air Officer Scotland and Station Commander RAF Leuchars, said: “The Royal Air Force is delighted and honoured to be able to participate in this year’s Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

“The Tattoo never fails to attract an international audience and we welcome the opportunity to showcase the United Kingdom’s impressive air power capability.”

The scheduled flypasts will take place by Typhoons tonight (Friday), Tuesday, August 5, Wednesday, August 13, and Saturday, August 16, and by Tornados on Friday, August 8, and Saturday, August 9.
