'Recycler' gets on his bike to help the planet
AN ENTERPRISING youngster is hoping to raise money for a school trip under the guise of his new green alter ego — The Re-cycler.
Niall Watson, of Winram Place, is offering a new weekend community service to help busy, elderly and disabled people recycle household materials such as glass, plastic and paper.
For a small fee, the 11-year-old will take to the streets of St Andrews with his mountain bike and trailer to collect and dispose of the town's recycling.
Niall is also offering a sorting service for people who do not have time to separate the different materials.
The young entrepreneur hopes profits will secure his place on a 215 school activity trip to the Ardeonaig Outdoor Centre in Perthshire next February.
Mum Liz Forrester said: "I told Niall if he could save up as much money as possible between now and then, I would double it which would hopefully cover the cost of the trip."
Niall will also donate 10 per cent to the Woodland Trust campaign, 'Trees for All', the biggest children's tree planting scheme in Scotland.
The Lawhead Primary pupil came up with the money-spinner after his mum prompted him to think how he could turn his hobbies and interests into a business project.
