Relentless rain and rising water causes chaos

Fifers have been left counting the costs after heavy rain on Thursday night and Friday caused flooding across the Kingdom.
Worst hit was Dura Den near Cupar, which made national headlines after a large section of a house was washed away.
But much of the East Neuk and parts of Levenmouth were also badly affected.
On Thursday night, a woman and her dog had to be rescued from her car after it got stuck in three feet of water near Colinsburgh. Similarly, occupants of a car had to be rescued when they became trapped in flood water near Shell Bay caravan park in Elie.
Many people were also given an impromptu day off work and school on Friday, with much of the East Neuk’s road network deemed impassable.
The A915 at Cairnsmill and at Largoward, the A917 from Elie to Balchrystie and the B942 between Balchrystie and Colinsburgh, among others, were all closed with diversions put in place.
The B942 still remains closed. It was partly washed away and was still being assessed by officers of Fife Council’s transportation department on Monday afternoon as the Mail went to press.
It is expected that the extent of the problems there will be clearer by the end of the week.
In Levenmouth, parts of Methilhill were under a couple of feet of water and much of Letham Glen in Leven has been left severely damaged, and in need of costly repairs, as a torrent of water ripped over one of the footbridges.
By mid-afternoon on Friday, Scoonie Burn looked to have reached its limits but, luckily, water subsided.
There was also anger in East Wemyss as the Kingslaw area flooded for a second time in a month and the Main Road was closed.
Fife Council was also forced to cancel all bookings for football pitches in Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and south west Fife over the weekend.
