A SUMMIT meeting to save Leven’s ailing Remploy factory is to take place in London soon.

The meeting, called for by MPs Gordon Brown, Lindsay Roy and Thomas Docherty, will press for a new financial package to rescue the 60 year-old business, which employs 30 disabled workers.

On February 13 the group will try to thrash out a transitional deal with Work Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, Fergus Ewing MSP and Fife Council which could give new owners a chance to turn the loss-making outfit around.

Mr Roy said: “Remploy Leven has full order books, has slashed it losses and has the potential to sell many more of the top-quality lifejackets it produces.

“There have already been expressions of interst from the private sector, but the Government must give the workers a chance.”
