What began as an idea for a get-together for a few old school friends has snowballed into one of the biggest events in Cupar this year.

Two of the town’s nightspots will be taken over on June 20 when hundreds of former Bell Baxter pupils gather for a massive reunion to mark the school’s 125th anniversary.

The idea was first mooted on Facebook last December by a group of seven old school friends.

Since then it’s gone viral, with more than 800 peoplejoining in the online reminiscences of their school days.

One of the organisers, Trystan O’Brien, is even making the journey from Australia specially for the occasion.

Around 400 people have already signed up for the reunion, which takes place in Watt’s Bar and Jordan’s Nightclub.

The celebrations begin at 6pm in Watts with a ‘school dinner’ followed by the opportunity to get class photographs taken in a photo booth set up specially for the night.

Then the party moves to Jordan’s where revellers will not only be able to dance the night away to the soundtrack of their youth but also see the international comedy act The Cuban Brothers performing ‘Barry Peters Halifax Hospital Radio School Disco’.

Organisers have achieved something of a coup in signing up the Cuban Brothers for the night, as they’ve performed all over the world and are firm favourites with A-list celebrities such as Madonna, Robbie Williams and Elton John, who have all booked them for their own parties.

A mainstay of the UK festival circuit and hosts of the annual Gumball Rally, they will be bringing their unique and fun filled show all the way to Cupar for the very first time.

The reunion is the result of months of planning by Trystan and his friends Steven ‘Dickie’ Stewart, Denise Russell, David ‘Plum’ Garland, Lisa Williamson, Gordon ‘Gobs’ Whittaker and Keith Howison.

Explained Dickie: “What started as a fun notice on Facebook back in December to see if a few old school friends would be up for having a little get-together snowballed into having over 400 people join the group in the first two days!

“The Facebook group now boasts over 800 old Bell Baxter school friends all chatting again about fun times at school.

“We have ex pupils of all ages coming along - some, like myself, who remember the 80s and others who didn’t start until 1998.

“We’ll be playing music to suit everyone’s age group - and there’ll be lots of audience participation, so be warned!”

School friends of all ages are encouraged to visit the group page to get involved with the party build up at www.facebook.com/groups/Bellbaxterschoolreunionparty.

Tickets for the event are available online from.ticketline.co.uk/bell-baxter-reunion-party; the Station Bar, Watts and Inner Beauty in Cupar; Hairplay in Newburgh; the Cycle Tavern in Auchtermuchty and Scott Robb Hairdressing in Falkland.
