When the man of your dreams pops the question in a dream location, what’s a girl to do?
For Sheila Whiting, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, after she had wiped away a tear or two, there was nothing for it but to say “yes”. The location in question was the world-famous Swilcan Bridge and doing the proposing was Lt Riad Byne, who was in town as one of a group of war-wounded Commonwealth servicemen brought over to play golf in Scotland by the St Andrews Legacy project - and he took Sheila completely by surprise. “It was pretty special,” Sheila said later. While she is not be as avid a golfer as Riad, the significance of the Old Course was not lost on her - she is membership director of golf club back in Halifax.
