Roving vans deployed at train stations
ScotRail has unveiled two specially-equipped vans to help its roving maintenance teams limit the impact of extreme weather at Fife stations.
The customised Ford Transits have been kitted out with snow and leaf blowers, trailers, large robust shovels and de-icing material spreaders to help enhance access, mainly at Fife’s unstaffed and part-time staffed stations.
They also feature mini-kitchens, with a hot water supply, microwave and sink, to sustain staff working during bad weather, in remote locations and at night.
Colin Reid, ScotRail’s station maintenance team supervisor for Fife, said the upgraded vans would directly benefit customers – particularly during times of severe wind, rain or freezing temperatures.
Mr Reid said: “The all-wheel-drive vans are part of our ongoing efforts to be better prepared for whenever extreme weather hits the region.
“They will help our roving station maintenance teams resolve any access issues at platforms, walkways and car parks at unstaffed and part-time staffed stations in Fife.”
The vans will serve stations including Ladybank, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Aberdour, Cardenden, Springfield, Dalgety Bay, North Queensferry, Lochgelly, Glenrothes, Dunfermline Queen Margaret and Rosyth.
Dedicated teams of two to four staff will alternate shifts to provide cover for 15 hours a day – or longer.
A total of 27 vans are being phased in across the country.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 01:27 PMThose so called cost savings of the past are now coming out of the current budget then? What did we do in the past then? Or are we all useless these days, a public service which cannot provide a service.
